Discussion panel: “Lessons in Wanderlust & What Millennial Travellers Want”

As the Travel and Tourism tries to survive and rise above the current crisis, it is clear to industry observers that the millennial travelers will be crucial to this recovery – not only as customers but also as stakeholders. Millennial travelers have shown to be a leading force in guiding the way to a more socially conscious, environmentally sustainable, and positivity-focused approach to travel that will help recharge host communities in the short and long term.

The interdisciplinary panel of lifestyle advocates, conservationists, and millennial influencers discuss the above topic, as well as some of the radical steps that we must be ready to consider to effectively tide over the current crisis.

Thou shall buy local

Travellers should support local economies through smart consumption: buy that cup of coffee from a local shop instead of a multinational chain; shop for clothing from local brands to help that new designer fresh out of college or the local tailor bringing her designs to life (how often have you come back home with a new dress from abroad, only for it to say “Made in India” on the label?)

Thou shall try public transport
Give cars a rest and go green. Public transport helps reduce your carbon footprint and lets you interact with new people

The Great Green Wall: India’s tree boom:

Under the Paris Agreement, India has pledged to increase its forests by 95 million hectares by 2030, costing around $6.2 billion.

In 2017 around 1.5 million volunteers planted more than 66 million trees in a record-breaking 12 hours

Tourism can destroy environments and drive out local residents. It’s time to rethink the purpose of travel.

“Greening” our vacations — making travel more sustainable without relinquishing it
entirely — is one of the fastest growing movements in travel.

It’s not just air miles that have a carbon footprint. A 2018 report by journal Nature Climate Change found that tourism accounts for about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and that shopping and food are “significant” contributors.
