Norway buying emissions offsets

Climate change – Landslides

ARTICLES DISCUSSED

Landslip in Norway, Are Landslides a Climate Change Consequence?

An incredible landslide was caught on video at Kråknes in Alta, in the north of Norway (Petley, 2020). It has swept away and damaged eight houses and a few cabins

An article from Inside Climate News, says that “as more permafrost thaws and water seeps deeper into mountains crags, extreme storms can trigger dangerous landslides and rockfalls.”  And it is not just that the planet is heating up but that a “denser blanket of GHG is sending warmer air and water deeper into the planet’s rocky bones.”

The law that could make climate change illegal

One of the most robust laws on climate change yet has been created in Denmark. Can legislation really make failing to act on climate change illegal?

Norway, for instance, plans to become “climate neutral” by 2030. The catch? This target is not enshrined in law, and Norway plans to meet it by buying emissions “offsets” from other countries.

Norway’s domestic emissions are actually higher today than they were 30 years ago.
